Aadhaar card can also be downloaded from WhatsApp: Just do this

Yes, you can download your Aadhaar card through WhatsApp. However, it is not possible directly from WhatsApp. This is a method of using the DigiLocker service through the Government of India’s ‘MyGov Helpdesk’ bot.

Here are the step-by-step instructions and key information:

Key Precautions and Requirements

  1. DigiLocker Account Required: For this method to work, you must already have a DigiLocker account and your Aadhaar card must be linked to it.
  2. Linked Mobile Number: The mobile number registered with your Aadhaar card (or the number linked to your DigiLocker account) must be the same as the phone you use for WhatsApp. This is essential as the OTP will come to the same number.
  3. Internet Data: This process requires an internet connection.

Steps to download Aadhaar via WhatsApp:

  1. Save contact number: Save the official ‘MyGov Helpdesk’ number of the Government of India in your phone contacts: +91 9013151515.
  2. Start WhatsApp chat: Open WhatsApp and chat to 9013151515.
  3. Send message: Type “Hi” or “Hi” in the chat window and send.
  4. Menu options: A menu will come up from the automated bot (chatbot). Select the option “DigiLocker” or “Aadhaar” in the menu (usually type the number in front of it and send).
  5. Enter Aadhaar number: The bot will ask for your 12-digit Aadhaar number (UID). Enter it and send.
  6. Get and enter OTP: An OTP (one-time password) will be sent to the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar number you entered. When the bot asks for it, type the OTP in the same chat and send it.
  7. Get your Aadhaar: If the OTP is correct, the bot will send you a link to the Aadhaar card available in your DigiLocker. Click on that link to download a PDF copy of your Aadhaar card.

More direct and secure methods (recommended)

Rather than going through the WhatsApp bot, the following official methods are more direct, faster and secure:

  1. mAadhaar App (Best Option): UIDAI’s official app. Install it from the Play Store, login with your mobile number and OTP. Your Aadhaar can be stored digitally on your phone. It also works offline.
  2. DigiLocker App/Website: Visit the DigiLocker app or website (digilocker.gov.in) directly, login and download Aadhaar from your documents section.
  3. UIDAI Website: Go to the uidai.gov.in website and select the “Download Aadhaar Card” option.

Remember: Never share your Aadhaar information with anyone. Use only official apps and websites. While going through the WhatsApp bot, make sure that the official number is MyGov Helpdesk (+91 9013151515).
